Was rearranging the office today which meant moving the server and did some housekeeping on it, and when I plugged her back in it seems the Ethernet cable didn't sit in the connector very well so connectivity was intermittent. Hopefully all solved.
Another PC is giving more grief, running XP Home and it had got a corrupted C partition, but after much time spent hunting for the original XP Home CD it managed to repair itself and is currently having a bevy of service packs installed.
